DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Organization Type: Acute Care Hospital
Organization Size: 131 beds in service
Salary: Contingent on experience
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the immediate supervision of the Emergency
Services Team Leader and works cohesively with the Network
Lab Director to manage the day to day operations of the laboratory
in addition to directing and/or performing a varieity of analytical
determinations of body fluid and tissue specimens utilizing
established and approved protocols, incorporating independent
judgement and responsibilities with minimal technical supervision.
Includes decisions concerning laboratory practices, policies
and procedures, planning, staffing, and problem solving as
well as any other assigned. Works directly with the Team Leader
in all disciplining and evaluating of the Lab personnel. Will
provide input regarding budgets for the areas of responsibility.
Requirements
* Certification as a MT (ASCP), CLS(NCA), or
equivalent credentials required.
* Three to five years of previous laboratory supervision required.
* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, medical
technology, or related field from an accredited college or
university which preferably included one year of laboratory
clinical training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Demonstrates a basic understanding of the
role of the laboratory in providing excellent patient care
and the responsibility of the laboratory in providing accurate
and timely information to assist in positive patient outcomes
in addition to the importance of the laboratory specialist's
working relationship with other Specialists.
* Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication
skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively
with all internal and external customers.
* Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory testing, reporting,
specimen processing, collection and the operation of related
equipment in order to perform a variety of analytical procedures
on specimens and to provide clinical guidance to staff.
* Demonstrates strong analytical and organizational skills
with a strong commitment to customer service.
* Demonstrates a general working knowledge of the normal growth,
development, related behaviors, needs, comfort and range of
treatment appropriate to the age (including neonates, child,
adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served to
support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary
plan of care.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure: Certification as
a MT (ASCP), CLS(NCA), or equivalent credentials required
Experience: Three to five years
of previous laboratory supervision required
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's
degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology, or related
field from an accredited college or university which preferably
included one year of laboratory clinical training.
