The President & CEO is responsible for the promotion of
a vigorous economic climate throughout the state of Arkansas.
This proven leader must direct the activities of the Arkansas
State Chamber of Commerce/Associated Industries of Arkansas
(State Chamber/AIA) to insure that sound economic decisions
are made by government leaders at the local, state, and national
level.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Build a member driven, public policy and
business advocacy organization through the development of
a shared vision among private and public sector leaders for
a sustainable program for improving education, economic development,
tax structure and a more competitive and prosperous Arkansas.
2. Build a membership recruitment and retention
program that is accomplished through personally reaching out
to top level executives in varied industry and business sectors
to assure a broad representation and a broad level of significant
financial support across industry groups.
3. Gather grassroots support among local Chambers
of Commerce, trade associations and other allies for significant
statewide initiatives aimed at moving the State forward.
4. Develop personal relationships with local,
state, and federal elected officials and government entities
to issues of the membership are being addressed at all levels.
5. Develop aggressive programs reaching every
corner of the state, every year, to engage business, community
and legislative leaders in meetings on key issues impacting
the future of the state.
6. To continue the promotion of education as
an integral component to economic development in Arkansas.
7. Engage the board and leadership in a planning
process that focuses on a sustainable, long-term program,
with demonstrable short-term benchmarks and achievable results.
8. Develop a reputation as THE unified spokesman
for business and the State Chamber/AIA in Arkansas in public
speaking engagements and media interviews.
9. Create a staff with a bias for action and
an understanding of a program based on outcomes, rather than
activity.
10. Build and promote a grassroots engagement
process, using web conference and teleconference technology
and internet, fax and mail communiqués to give members
a meaningful voice at the Capitol without leaving their desks.
QUALIFICATIONS/ ABILITIES
* Bachelors Degree
* Documented successful experience in organizational management.
* Demonstrate the ability to recruit and retain the organization's
members.
* Must be self-motivated with highly developed organizational,
interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written and
listening). Public speaking experience is required.
* Extensive experience in public policy arena
* Knowledge of global market trends and international trade
opportunities for Arkansas business expansion
* Strong financial management experience
* Market responsive with a bias for action.
* Motivational and inspirational, but well-grounded in a commitment
to establishing reasonable benchmarks and meeting them.
* A proven leader, with the ability to drive positive change
through the enlistment and engagement of volunteer leaders.
* Knowledge of Arkansas helpful but not essential.
